Arid - J.W. Nelleke (orchestra)
Commissioned for a festival in Rotterdam celebrating Doggerland—the sunken land beneath the North Sea where ancient cultures lived, both in harmony and conflict with nature.
‘Arid’ is a piece about the future of Doggerland, and by extension, our world. It gives sound to the fear of an undeniable climate crisis, where rising temperatures melt mountain ice and desiccate river flows, jeopardizing our most vital resources. The music is a vision of a dry, withered earth.
