Beyond the Stars - J.W. Nelleke (flute)

Three pieces for solo flute with use of extended techniques like multiphonics and harmonics. The movements are connected by quasi-stellar associations.

The first piece is wild and capricious, inspired by Cruithne, "Earth's second moon," named after a semi-mythical tribe that lived within the British Isles during the Iron Age (Picts).

The second piece, titled Stellar Crystal, conjures meditative images of a translucent crystal, suspended in the sky.

The third movement is a rhythmically challenging finale where the player taps the floor in counter rhythm.
