Duo - J.W. Nelleke (flute, piano)

£22.00

The duo is really a flute sonata in all but the name. It is a piece where both instruments play together but are not afraid to fight each other.

- The first movement shows a never ceasing drive for development as new motifs spiral toward a climactic frenzy.

- In stark contrast, the second movement embraces a dark and static character. The piano keeps repeating a slow, choral like chord progression allowing the flute to illuminate the recurring theme in ever-changing hues.

- The third movement introduces exotic textures with the pianist creating sound effects by directly manipulating the strings, while the flute resonates with an oriental, wooden timbre by pulling the head joint out extremely. Optionally this movement can be omitted.

- Finally, the sonata concludes with a grand finale brimming with exciting and swinging rhythms.
