Le Tombeau de Bilitis - J.W. Nelleke (voice, piano)
3 Songs for mezzo soprano
£12.00
Drawing inspiration from the enchanting world of Les Chansons de Bilitis, Jan Willem Nelleke's short song cycle sets the three epitaphs allegedly inscribed on her tomb. Originally claimed to be unearthed from a tomb in Cyprus, these verses were the creation of Pierre Louÿs, who sought to breathe life into the fictional courtesan Bilitis. They work very well when performed alongside Claude Debussy's more famous interpretations of Bilitis's verses.
