Quintet - W.A. Mozart (flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon and horn)

after the Violin Sonata KV 454

£30.00

In April 1784, Mozart composed the Violin Sonata in B-flat, KV 454, during a period when he had firmly established himself as a master of wind-band composition. This creative phase followed the triumphant premiere of his grand serenade for thirteen instruments and closely preceded the completion of his renowned quintet for piano and winds, which he regarded as one of his finest works.

Transforming this violin sonata into an arrangement for a classical woodwind combination endeavors to reimagine Mozart’s music, as if he had conceived it as a quintet from the outset. Although achieving this vision may seem elusive, it is a compelling aspiration when engaging with such an extraordinary masterpiece, inviting musicians to explore the rich potential of the original score through a new lens.
