Paul Reade's The Midas Touch is a musical retelling of the legends of King Midas, his infamous golden touch and the tale of the ass's ears. Originally composed for narrator and thirteen instruments, this arrangement for quartet artfully condenses the piece, allowing the performers to narrate the whimsical text by Michael Cole themselves.
Whether spoken by the quartet or a dedicated narrator, the combination of Reade's vibrant music and Cole's clever words will surely bring the timeless story of King Midas to life in a fresh and accessible format.
For this version, piccolo and bass clarinet are essential (the inclusion of a recorder and Eb clarinet in certain sections is optional).
